About John Scott

John has been a decorator for over 40 years having completed his traditional four year apprenticeship in 1980.

He served his apprenticeship with D. Mitchels of Peebles who were established in 1790. With Mitchel’s he was trained to a very high standard and experienced working in country estate homes for clients such as Lord Glenconner and the Earl of Wemyss.

He then moved to a company in Edinburgh where he carried out work on large refurbishments, such as hospitals, hotels and office blocks.

He was then offered work in Gibraltar for an Edinburgh building company. This was decorating new-build properties for service personnel on three sites on “The Rock”.

A year later he returned from Gibraltar and was offered work with a painting contractor in Livingston. As a sub-contractor he returned to working on large refurbishments as well as new-builds. As a charge hand he was responsible for running jobs and ensuring deadlines were met and contracts completed to the satisfaction of clients and architects.

In 1991, while visiting family in Bakewell a neighbour asked if he would decorate their staircase. More work followed so he took the decision to settle in Derbyshire.

Since then he has traded in North East Derbyshire as a self employed decorator.

For 30 years John has carried out work for clients from Leek to Bolsover, Hope Valley to Matlock. All of whom will testify positively to the standard of his workmanship, honesty and pride in his work.
